Great Events, Classes and Special Events - Details
Thursday, February 9, 2012 - Just Listed. Wine Blending Seminar (VA), $28
Join Winemaker Marcos Fernandez, one of the rising stars of Mendoza, Argentina for a Tutored Tasting and Blending Seminar showcasing the Single Vineyard wines of Finca Decero, a world-class, boutique winery from high-elevation, sub-district Agrelo, a property situated in the foothills of the Andes. After only a few vintages the winery has received an abundance of accolades and Marcos, who studied with and worked with Paul Hobbs is the face of this world-class operation.
Marcos will lead a discussion on winemaking and viticulture in Mendoza, contrasting his experiences of winemaking in California, and then lead the class through a comprehensive tasting of the Single Vineyard wines made at Finca Decero. Marcos will discuss the unique terrior of Remolinos Vineyard and explain the philosopy of Finca Decero, which translates to “from scratch”. After tasting the single vartiety wines, the tasting will culminate with the small batch Flagship wine “Amano”, a blend of top parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and a hint of Tannat.
Then it is your turn to play winemaker. After tasting each component on its own (including cask samples of Tanat!) you will partner up with another student to blend your own Amano Cuvee & Marcos himself will be the official judge of blending efforts. This promises to be a fun, educational, and delicious hands-on experience.
