Washington Wine Academy is an authorized training center for WSET course. WSET stands for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET®), the world's premier wine educational organization.
Washington Wine Academy students can earn official WSET credentials -starting with the Intermediate Certificate. Additional courses will be added over the coming months to include the Advanced Certificate, and Diploma.
All WSET course instructors hold either the credentials of Master of Wine (MW) or WSET Diploma. WSET programs are the recommended preparatory study for Master of Wine candidates.
The Levels
The WSET classes are a progression, beginning with Intermediate Certificate, followed by Advanced Certificate, and Diploma. Each level covers the entire world of wine by geographical region— including viticulture, vinification, and appellation labeling laws— and also covers wine-tasting technique.
The Advanced Certificate is a strict prerequisite for the Diploma Program

Advance payment is required for all programs. Register online, by telephone or FAX with American Express, VISA or MasterCard; call 703- 971-1525, or FAX 703-922-6630. You may also send a check to the Washington Wine Academy (P.O. Box 30800, Alexandria, VA 22310).
As a courtesy to wine businesses, we will invoice those companies that have established credit with us.
Refunds:
If you cancel your place before the course begins you will receive a refund of the class fee, less a 10% cancellation fee. If we have sent out the materials kit to you, you must return it, complete and unused, in order to receive full credit. Registration and shipping fees are not refundable.
If you cancel after the class begins, no refunds apply. However, your registration is fully transferable to another person for the same course and session, subject to qualification. If you have to miss a class, you are welcome to make-up the class next term if you notify us before the session occurs..
Intermediate Certificate
No previous wine knowledge is required. Class is appropriate for students who have a serious interest in wine, and those who wish to broaden their knowledge. Intermediate Certificate covers the wines and spirits of the world in six three-hour sessions, followed by a one-hour multiple choice examination on a final (extra) session. Wine tasting is a part of every class.
Successful candidates receive the WSET Intermediate Certificate.
